Overview
During Summer 2022, I joined Insomniac Games as a UI/UX Art intern where I designed player facing features for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. I worked within a dynamic team environment, striving to make the experiences, designs, and content I was working on cohesive and seamless.
Abilities Menu
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 features an Abilities menu, where the player can manage and equip abilities for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales to use in combat.
I led UX direction for the Abilities screen, partnering closely with UI Art and UI Engineering to deliver a clear, responsive, and progression-driven upgrade experience. Below are the points I prioritized so our direction felt clear and seamless:
Designed interaction patterns that communicated input-slot mapping, hover and focus states, and equip status at a glance, ensuring players could quickly understand which abilities were assigned to each control input.
Defined the layout and flow to support multiple progression paths within a single screen, allowing players to review, unlock, and equip abilities without losing context.
Collaborated on visual feedback and motion treatments to reinforce player choice, making ability selection feel impactful while maintaining readability and usability across the full progression system.
